An outspoken civil rights activist and former chief within the Black Panther Get together who was convicted of killing a Fulton County deputy has died. He was 82.
The Federal Bureau of Prisons confirmed that Jamil Al-Amin, previously referred to as H. Rap Brown, died in federal custody on the Federal Medical Heart in Butner, North Carolina on Sunday.
His attorneys say he went by means of a “extended interval of extreme medical decline.”
“On behalf of our complete household, I thank each single one who prayed, stood, marched, researched, wrote, advocated, and fought to clear my father’s title. Your love sustained us. Your perception in his innocence strengthened us,” his son, Kairi Al-Amin, wrote.
Al-Amin was serving a life sentence after being convicted of the 2000 killing of a Fulton County deputy and injuring one other one.
Deputy Ricky Kinchen and Deputy Aldranon English have been serving an arrest warrant on Al-Amin when each have been shot. Kinchen died from his accidents, whereas English survived.
All through his sentence, Al-Amin maintained his innocence. His attorneys with the Davis Bozeman Johnson Legislation Agency say they have been working to safe a brand new trial for Al-Amin.
In Could 2025, attorneys say they joined the Innocence Venture to file a movement for a brand new trial.
