Film Overview: Honeymoon In Vegas (1992)

Synopsis: 4 years after promising his dying mom (Anne Bancroft) that he won’t ever marry, New York-based non-public investigator Jack Singer (Nicolas Cage) has studiously managed to keep away from dedication. However when his girlfriend Betsy (Sarah Jessica Parker) points an ultimatum, he agrees to marry her in Las Vegas. Skilled poker participant Tommy Korman (James Caan) falls in love with Betsy at first sight as a result of she reminds him of his lifeless spouse. He dupes Jack into shedding $65,000 at a personal poker recreation, and calls for Betsy’s firm for the weekend as fee. Tommy and Betsy jet off to Hawaii, with Jack in scorching pursuit to attempt to save his relationship.

What Works Effectively: The collective expertise of Nicolas Cage, James Caan, and Sarah Jessica Parker is adequate to keep up a base stage of engagement. The Las Vegas and Hawaii settings provide respectable eye sweet, punctuated by the neat involvement of flying Elvis impersonators.

What Does Not Work As Effectively: Author and director Andrew Bergman sacrifices character cohesion to serve the whims of a largely moribund and all the time contrived script. Tommy oscillates between charming, clumsy, and imply; Betsy falls out and in of affection each different scene; and Jack snaps from dedication phobe to desperate-to-commit in a heartbeat. A lot of the laughs are ho-hum, and the obsession with Elvis impersonators grows stale. Pat Morita makes a welcome look as a taxi driver in Hawaii, however deserved a much bigger function.
