Father and son must get re-acquainted, whereas the path of proof results in a mosque, a veteran assist group, and none apart from Gordito. When extra firepower is required, Shaft turns to his legendary father John Shaft Sr. (Richard Roundtree) for assist.

What Works Effectively: The fifth movie within the collection that began in 1971, this model advantages from Samuel L. Jackson in prime type oozing confidence and swagger, and the in the end irresistible premise of three generations of John Shaft becoming a member of forces to remove evil. The sharp script (by Kenya Barris and Alex Barnow) is full of humour, profanity, and zingers, and full of loud and intense motion scenes. The rapid-fire father-son interactions are juiced by clashing inter-generational views and some character-driven surprises (J.J. doesn’t like weapons, till he does).

What Does Not Work As Effectively: The plot is overcomplicated, but in addition underexplained and decreased to filler materials between the motion set-pieces and buddy-movie dynamics. The stability tilts too far in direction of jovial, sanding-off the character’s edge and any sense of jeopardy.

Key Quote:

Shaft: Generally, ladies desire a man… to be manly.

J.J.: I am fairly certain ladies don’t love being advised what it’s that they like.
