Synopsis: In Harlem of 1989, personal investigator John Shaft (Samuel L. Jackson) is ambushed by thugs working for gang chief Gordito. Shaft’s girlfriend Maya (Regina Corridor) is fed-up with the violence and leaves him, taking Shaft’s younger son J.J. along with her. 20 years later, J.J. (Jessie T. Usher) is an analyst working on the FBI’s New York workplace. When his finest buddy Karim dies below suspicious circumstances, J.J seeks his father’s assist to analyze. Father and son must get re-acquainted, whereas the path of proof results in a mosque, a veteran assist group, and none apart from Gordito. When extra firepower is required, Shaft turns to his legendary father John Shaft Sr. (Richard Roundtree) for assist.
What Does Not Work As Effectively: The plot is overcomplicated, but in addition underexplained and decreased to filler materials between the motion set-pieces and buddy-movie dynamics. The stability tilts too far in direction of jovial, sanding-off the character’s edge and any sense of jeopardy.
