Film Evaluation: Demise Want 4: The Crackdown (1987)

Style: Vigilante Motion

Director: J. Lee Thompson

Starring: Charles Bronson, Kay Lenz, John P. Ryan, Perry Lopez

Operating Time: 99 minutes

Synopsis: In Los Angeles, architect and infamous ex-vigilante Paul Kersey (Charles Bronson) is in a relationship with journalist Karen Sheldon (Kay Lenz). When Karen’s daughter Erica dies by drug overdose, Paul takes revenge on a drug pusher. He’s then pressured by the rich Nathan White (John P. Ryan) to wash up two rival gangs controlling the cocaine commerce, one led by Ed Zacharias (Perry Lopez), the opposite by the Romero brothers. As Paul begins eliminating gang members, police detectives shut in.

What Works Properly: On this surprisingly not terrible third sequel, a lithe Bronson (at age 67) is an efficient killing machine ridding society of vermin. The target-the-drug-cartels theme is well timed and hides a few mildly participating surprises. Director J. Lee Thompson phases some pretty inventive set-pieces, together with the opening parkade scene, a raid on a fish plant, and a shootout at an oil derrick. A number of the dialogue exchanges comprise pointy zingers.

What Does Not Work As Properly: It will not be terrible, nevertheless it’s nonetheless fairly unhealthy. Aside from Bronson, the appearing is third charge, and the enhancing and sound mixing are at all times clunky and generally atrocious. After all the script by no means makes an attempt to be logical, and takes itself far too critically.

Key Quote:
