Film Assessment: Vegas Trip (1997)

Synopsis: After receiving a piece bonus, Clark Griswold (Chevy Chase) takes his household on a trip to Las Vegas. His spouse Ellen (Beverly D’Angelo) catches the attention of entertainer Wayne Newton (enjoying himself), whereas Clark will get hooked on playing (and shedding), ignoring his household within the course of. Daughter Audrey (Marisol Nichols) connects along with her rough-and-tumble cousin in Vegas’ sordid corners, whereas son Rusty (Ethan Embry) discovers a hidden expertise for profitable.

What Works Nicely: This third sequel within the collection of Griswold household trip misadventures captures Vegas’ gag-inducing fake glitz and glamour, and the related playing risks. The operating time is mercifully brief, and a late intervention by Sid Caesar is price ready for.

What Does Not Work As Nicely: Randy Quaid’s boorish cousin Eddie retains getting in the best way, plumbing new depths of atrocious behaviour. Clark Griswold’s model of comedian ineptitude is low on vitality, and the solid responds by simply going by means of the motions. Wayne Newton and Wallace Shawn (as a caustic blackjack supplier) are over-applied to little impact. A lot of the jokes miss their targets, together with a drained detour to the Hoover Dam.
